The Artist
Artist's insight on artists.
This year (2011) I joined the Burlingame Art Society. Belonging to a group of fellow artists has always made me feel somewhat at odds with them. Maybe because I see so much exceptional work and then begin to think my contributions are not up to their level. After much soul searching I realized I am as good as the next artist with my own style and expertise. Thus, I offer this statement to offset any ill feelings one might have against a newcomer with a bit of talent: Art is an expression that we all use, so how could there be any real criticism. If anything, our art is complimentary of each other as we all see life from different perspectives. Thus, we share our art for the purpose of expression of what we see and feel and hope that energy is passed on to the viewers. We could not possibly accept all of the art in the world as our own perspective, but we can say which art moves and pleases us more than others. A good thing, too, because we are not clones of each other, we are living breathing beings of the Universe each with a different set of personal values that we would not want to impose on others if they do not agree. Art is the legacy we give to the world civilizations on Earth as service to the communities in a visual, musical and written testament of our being. Art serves as the key point of social awareness of the past, present and future. I consider myself as a metaphysical artist with special interests that provoke deeper thinking within for the soul purpose of evolving to a higher consciousness.
